Doc: Cities and Telecommunications Video Action Project
 Director of Photography

Earlier this year I was involved in a multi-media initiative. It was designed to  inform officials and citizens of the controversy now taking place regarding public & corporate interest's in a rewrite of the 1996 Telecommunications Act .

The documentary deals with internet neutrality issues, and the push by new commercial interests to alter the power of cities to regulate their own communications environments and public rights of ways.

Interviews were shot in Washington, D.C. and Portland OR. As DP I helped develop & execute the 24p look and visual tone of interviews with producers and facilitated equipment arrangements from city to city.

Content will be edited into a 30 minute documentary and six  short  format videos for discussion, distributed on DVD. The video will  be integrated into a website advocating a detailed exploration of these issues for the public and  legislators.

Corporate: US Financial Life "James Bond"   National  Sales Meeting
Director of Photography

Late last fall I worked with Mark Krumme of Encore productions on a corporate "James Bond" style take-off. It was shot as a mini feature for an insurance company’s national sales meeting.

The production took place over an eight day period combining on location scenes with larger scaled studio sets, shot in Rise’ s Studio A.

As DP, I scouted and specified shot locations, equipment needs and crew. I helped draw up the shooting schedule as well as special effects strategies on rear-screen projections and car and helicopter rescue scenes.

The limousine and convertible were pulled into the studio and shot to match outside location scenes.

We used mole fans for wind and shadow effects and a block & tackle rig from the studio grid to lift people in the air.  A fairly believable helicopter rescue scene was pulled off as James and Cherry were lifted out of the  "speeding" limo's  skylight with  a 15 x 20 video rear projection setup completing the illusion.

Camera operator duties were shared with two others.

Spots: Time Warner Business Class & testimonial spot series
Director of Photography/Camera Op

I was tapped recently to work a series of spots for Time Warner depicting their Road  Runner Business class service and local  residential phone offerings.

The testimonial footage was shot this past  fall in Midwest's  new  studio.

Utilizing  comments from actual customers  in a  white limbo  environment, we created ten  spots that  ran over the winter season.

The  spots were shot  utilizing a Digibeta camera supported on a dolly mounted jib arm.   Gerry Cummins executed the  Cammate work.

For the Business Class Service spot we  focused on Montgomery Inn and how Roadrunner  service was benefiting their mail-order and in-restaurant operations.

I visually combed over their facilities finding the most appealing and appropriate locations to tell the story. We highlighted Tom Gregory, the founder of Montgomery Inn, and used actual employees as on-camera talent.

The 48 Hour Film Project
Love & Surveillance was our third year entry, for the Pixelfarmer team  This year  we had a combined cast & crew of 47 people. With the writers  handing  us a script calling for 20 different parts we needed everyone!

Shooting started 8am Sat. morning and wrapped as the  sun was rising early on Sunday. One of our  very last shots was the opening dolly scene of Melissa checking  for dust on the  name plates.

The  rest of Sunday was devoted to editing and fine tuning. We delivered the finished tape and paperwork 15 minutes before the 7:30pm deadline and commenced drinking with  all the other teams assembled at Game Day Cafe.

It was a great effort by all the incredibly talented team members. Though it was utterly exhausting it was also more fun and stimulating that I could ever convey in words.

Check out the website. You can watch the  film here as well
